Herod Antipas meet us again in the biblical story. This time he stands before Jesus. It had then been three years since John the Baptist's beheading.
Scripture tells us that his disciples took care of his body and buried it. But while John the Baptist's spirit was transferred to the glorious sky continued God's plan of salvation for the fallen human race. John had fulfilled their mission to show Jesus as Savior. And now come, Jesus was in his public ministry.
There is nothing as big as that, like John get to be an instrument in God's hand. And once having completed its mission and meet the client who will say:
"Well done, good and faithful servant: Go into the joy of thy lord '1. How empty and meaningless, however, for those who lived only for this mortal life. What helps when a good position, career and wealth if not in God's will and have his blessing on his life.
Jesus once asked the question: what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and lose his own soul? Second Similarly, it was for Herod Antipas. This emptiness he surely know already that evening he pronounced the death sentence of a man who has been the voice of God in his life. But God's will for humanity could not be stopped, but it sought further. When Herod Antipas heard about Jesus and his work was God's next step in his plan of salvation for mankind.
When Jesus later rose from the dead and taken home to heaven, continued the Spirit of God, by Jesus' disciples communicate God's word to the people right into our time. Thus also want this paper to convey the Word of God to salvation. At the time Jesus came before Herod Antipas, Jesus stood before giving his life on the cross for our salvation. After three years worked with signs, wonders and preaching the word of God, he gave the persecutors' hands. The time was then for him to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins. He was taken before the governor Pilate in Judea.
But when Pilate heard that Jesus was from Galilee, he sent him to Herod Antipas, who were tetrarch of Galilee, but who temporarily lived in Jerusalem. When the Bible says that Herod had long wanted to meet Jesus. It does not seem as if Jesus let him do it. Herod had during those three years that Jesus seemed not seen Jesus, although Jesus did most of Galilee where Herod ruled.
Even when Herod had heard the rumors about Jesus' first time works of Luke says in his gospel that "Herod wanted to see Jesus." 3
And when he finally, after three years will have the opportunity to meet Jesus, Luke says the same: "When Herod saw Jesus, he was very happy. He had long wanted to meet him, because he had heard about him and he now hoped to see him do something characters. "4
But then something happened strange. Although Herod asked a lot of questions to Jesus, Jesus said not Herod Antipas. Probably he was God's Word completion nothing to say to that so hardened his heart that he killed someone who has been the voice of God to him.
But at that time Herod had apparently become so hardened so that he grieved that Jesus was silent. Instead, he mocked him and made fun of him. The need to get answers to their questions were no longer urgently needed. However now turned his mind to the contempt for Jesus. The Bible tells us that he and his soldiers responded to Jesus with contempt. They dressed him in a foolish robe and sent him back to Pilate.
Since no fear is to God's voice is silenced förhärdelsen often a fact. On the other hand, ensures the quietness in the interior can still count on God's care.
It is a little strange passage in this context of Luke. It says that on that day Herod and Pilate in this way appeared for the crucifixion of Jesus, they became friends with each other. Previously there had been enmity between them.
Devil's henchmen seek support from each other without considering the judgment one day befall them in the eternal world. Herod Antipas had their search time and so it is with each of us. But once silenced the voice of God calling. Often as late as when our life flame goes out. Then it is important that we said yes to God's calling voice while probation lasts.
After death, for there is no way to repent. Therefore, we should carefully consider the following sångtexts admonition: "Once it gets too late, though you never ment. You meet Jesus, be my friend, but then the judge. Get ready to meet God, prepare to meet God. Not like you lost forever go, prepare to meet God. "
